Signs of air compressor failure

Apr 07, 2022

1. Abnormal noise, abnormal vibration

The abnormal sound during operation is the "alarm" of equipment failure. Vibrates violently during operation.

The reasons for the abnormal noise of the compressor may be:

The bearing of the main engine is worn, the shaft is unbalanced, and the yin and yang rotors are damaged;

The operating load of the main engine is too large, the pressure is held back or the pressure of the pipe network is unbalanced;

Loose bolts, nuts, washers and fixing brackets;

Sundries and foreign objects fall into the equipment;

It is also possible that the overhaul period is approaching as the compressor unit runs.

At this time, the axial and radial movement of the screw gradually tends to the maximum design allowable value. This change will lead to a large change in the gap between the screw and the screw, between the screw and the host shell and the front and rear surfaces, causing friction. , vibration and various sounds.

2. Running and dripping

Leakage of lubricating oil, etc. of equipment;

There is leakage of compressed air, etc., and sometimes the sound of air leakage can be clearly heard;

Leakage of circulating cooling water, etc.

The main reason for the occurrence of leaks is that the equipment and accessories are aging or not maintained in place, especially due to the bad behavior or careless operation of employees.

These seemingly small problems can lead to very serious consequences, although these consequences are hidden behind various appearances.

Taking compressed air as an example, leakage will not only directly waste expensive electrical energy and cause a burden on electricity bills, but may also cause system pressure drop, reduce the functional efficiency of pneumatic equipment, and shorten equipment life.

At the same time, more frequent equipment cycling due to air leaks increases the operating time of the air compressor, which results in additional maintenance requirements and potentially increased unplanned downtime. Simply put, compressed air leaks add unnecessary compressor capacity.

Leaks, combined with the common problem of higher-than-requested system workloads, can lead to so-called "spurious demands," which keep things constantly loaded with no time to rest.

All of these adversely affect productivity and shorten the life of virtually all system equipment and air tools. Excessive energy use and reduced equipment life, this is a double blow to factory owners, which must be taken seriously.

3. Special smell

When the motor is overheated and the lubricating oil is burned in the cylinder, it will emit a special smell.

There will be a burning smell when the circuit is short-circuited, the ground wire and other insulating materials are burned.

Materials such as rubber give off a burnt smell.
